The Issue

As someone deeply concerned about the increased racial and ethnic discrimination that our country has witnessed especially during the Trump administration, I see the need for change. The term "The White House" is not only historically outdated, but also entrenches the perception of racial bias. I believe that we need to establish a new beginning, where each one of us feels represented thus, "The People's House" would create a strong, positive change.

Capacity for discrimination has long been built into systems and institutions of power. Characteristics such as color, race, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability, and genetic information have been used as grounds for exclusion. Under the Trump Administration, reports show that things have gotten worse as Trump undermines the Constitution of the United States.

Conversely, adopting the term "The People's House" for what is currently called, "The White House" could symbolize a step forward in our fight against systemic discrimination. A name change, while seemingly simple, can act as a powerful reminder that every citizens, regardless of their characteristics, has the right to representation and a fair voice in our democratic systems.

Renaming the White House to the People's House would underline that our national narratives are no longer dominated by one group, but rather reflect our nation's incredible diversity. It's time to move towards a future with inclusivity at its core.

By signing this petition, you're endorsing the idea of an America that values every citizen equally. Let's make The People's House a reality!
