The Issue

DPS 109’s current plan comes with a massive tax burden for all residents, adds a ring road around Walden’s parks and in backyards, and builds a two-story school squeezed into residential space.

While we support investing in our schools - whether by renovation or rebuild - it must be done in a fiscally responsible, safe, residentially sensitive, and environmentally safe way.  At the very least, any improvements should be made at the current school site.

No other school’s plan impacts the community like the plan at Walden. It destroys neighborhood character, harms the environment, and puts our children’s safety at risk.

Protect community spaces. No ring road. No oversized two-story school. Keep kids safe. Maintain pedestrian access to the park. Stop the wasteful tax plan.

👉 Sign now to demand a smarter, safer, and more responsible plan for our schools and community for the next 75 years.

We, the undersigned, strongly oppose the current plan to rebuild Walden Elementary School.

While we support our students, this specific plan is destructive, wasteful, and unsafe for the entire community for generations to come.

Our concerns include:

Massive tax burden: This plan places an unnecessary and heavy cost on all residents, without delivering a truly better solution.

Loss of community character: The proposed ring road around parks and the school will damage the neighborhood feel and limit safe access to green space.

Invasive design: A two-story school crammed against residential areas is not an appropriate fit for the community.

Environmental damage: The plan threatens local green space and disregards environmental impacts.

Safety risks: This design does not prioritize child safety or violence prevention.

Our message is clear:

  • No ring road.
  • No oversized two-story school in residential areas.
  • Protect park and community access.
  • Keep kids safe.
  • Reject the wasteful tax plan.

We call on the district to reject this harmful proposal and work collaboratively with the community to design a different plan that is safe, fiscally responsible, and truly supportive of our children’s education for the next 75 years.
