It feels like every time I plan to hang out with friends at Bridge Street, the teen curfew gets pushed earlier and earlier. This restrictive curfew set at 4:00 PM is robbing teens like me of the simple joys of spending time with friends after school. Whether it's grabbing a coffee, watching a movie, or just strolling around, having these social interactions is crucial.

Currently, the 4:00 PM curfew policy implemented at Bridge Street is unreasonable and overly restrictive. Teens are being forced to leave just as businesses start to pick up and the atmosphere becomes lively. This policy not only impacts our social lives but also affects businesses that benefit from our patronage. For example, surveys have shown that areas with more flexible teen curfews experience an economic uptick due to increased youth foot traffic, benefitting local businesses and creating a vibrant community environment.

In many other places, curfews are more reasonably set around 10:30 PM or even 11:00 PM on weekends, allowing teens to have a full day enjoying themselves responsibly without unnecessary restrictions. Adopting a similar time frame would ensure we’re not unreasonably confined and would prevent us from feeling excluded in our own town.

By changing the curfew to a more suitable time, we are advocating for a balance that allows teens to enjoy their time, fosters community involvement, and maintains safety. Let us work towards a more inclusive and vibrant community by adjusting the curfew to 10:30 PM or even 11:00 PM.
