Arguably, speed limits on roads are very important, they help to keep people and other road users safe, however recently, the UK councils have really over stepped within certain areas and on very important roads. Additionally, in 2025 most speed limits are unjustified such as on motorways.

As a road user myself, I feel that the speed limits in certain areas should be changed. For example, most areas within central London have a measly 20 mph limit, this is understandable within hospital and school zones but is completely unacceptable and just inconvenient in the majority of the roads. I found myself concentrating more on my speedometer rather than what’s in front of me when I enter central London as I worry that I will be fined for doing a speed that most people can run at. The maximum limit within London and elsewhere should be at 30 mph as this is more reasonable and way more efficient.

When it comes to Motorways, I feel as though the 70 mph limit should be increased to at least 90 mph, as I feel that the cars of today are better suited for that speed, increasing the limit on motorways is likely to reduce congestion and allows people to migrate through the country way faster. This means that trade and other goods vehicles will likely be able to reduce their travel time and actually help the economy in the long run.
