Change the Speed Limit on the Pyrenees Hwy Chewton

The issue

People of Elphinstone and surrounding areas are angry and frustrated over the recently changed speed limit which starts at White Gum Track in Chewton. The reduction of speed limit on this section of road is perplexing as it is a road in reasonable to good condition and is a sparsely populated rural road before the township of Chewton proper.

This has caused a number of problems such as drivers becoming frustrated and angry, overtaking in unsafe places, and abusive behavior. Trucks are now having to use noisy engine brakes because they have to slow by 30kms an hour in a short distance. This change was neither asked for nor welcomed by a majority of locals or people from surrounding areas.

It is understood that a local group called for a reduction in speed from the Chewton 50km zone through Wesley Hill to Castlemaine however, why this was brought back to White Gum track is questionable.
