The Issue

Having a voice in our democracy is paramount, but it should not come with the burden of voting in a place that stirs discomfort or apprehension.

Currently, Pawleys Island Community Church serves as a polling place. Unfortunately, this location is embroiled in a serious situation that has created an environment of distress and concern for many in our community. The church is under investigation because of a grave situation involving a Child Sexual Predator who was employed there. The pastor, his wife, the school's director and the convicted predator were all arrested on many egregious charges. Several elders have also resigned.

This troubling revelation raises significant concerns about the appropriateness of this venue continuing to serve as a polling place, especially so close to the upcoming midterm elections. Voters should not be forced to vote in a place where trust has been visibly breached and community leaders implicated in such a grave manner.

Moving the polling place would restore confidence in the electoral process and ensure that all citizens feel safe and respected in their civic duties. We propose relocating the polling place to an alternative venue that does not carry such a heavy burden of scandal and anxiety.

There are several other options in our area that could serve as an adequate replacement for this polling location. Local schools, community centers, or other places of assembly not tainted by allegations could provide neutral grounds for voters during the midterm elections.

Our goal is simple: to ensure a safe, comfortable, and unbiased environment for all voters as they partake in this crucial democratic process. Your voice matters. Let's work together to bring change where it is needed the most.

We urge the local election authorities to act swiftly in transferring the polling place to a new, neutral location.

Please sign this petition and support our call for a fair and secure voting process for our community.
