We are veterans, students, sons and daughters, Americans, activists, and black. We have been asked all our lives to be proud of a nation that does not seem very proud of us. In 1812 a racist wrote a song that was then adopted a century later as the anthem for a nation built on the principles of freedom and liberty. We challenge this nation and its great people to live up to that. Read the rest of that anthem and see does it sound like the America who men and women of all creeds fought and died to build. Our idea is to use the song "Lift Every Voice and Sing" but if not, let Americans vote upon this. Create a state by state poll. Come up with the top choices and vote once more. Join me and finding a song that contains ALL american voices. Peace be upon you and our nation.
