Since 2016, I have been trying to navigate the mental health treatment system in Stranraer, and it has been nothing short of appalling. As someone who suffers from ADHD, combined Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), I understand firsthand the urgent need for proper mental health care and support. Unfortunately, the system fails to provide this, leaving individuals like me in crisis.

Currently, the mental health services in Stranraer are severely lacking in many fundamental areas. Patients, including myself, often find their necessary medication removed without proper consideration, forcing us to cope without the support we desperately need. The lack of consultation and the inability to secure appointments means we rarely have the opportunity to speak with a psychiatrist. Consequently, many are left without guidance, contributing directly to the deterioration of mental health.

The situation here is critical. There are countless stories, mine included, of people suffering due to the systemic deficiencies and lack of empathetic care. We need changes that ensure immediate, consistent, and caring responses to those reaching out for help. This means:

1. Ensuring regular and timely appointments with trained psychiatrists.
2. Developing a robust system to maintain the appropriate and necessary medical treatment for all patients.
3. Installing emergency support mechanisms to avoid folks reaching a point of crisis before receiving any assistance.

We shouldn't be losing lives because of treatable conditions due to bureaucratic shortcomings and negligence. These issues are leading to people losing hope and, tragically, dying. The mental health crisis in Stranraer cannot continue to be ignored. We demand the local health authorities and government bodies intervene and address these frightening inadequacies immediately.
