the dress code prohibits "inappropriate, revealing clothing" which should be reasonable, however this supposedly now includes crop tops or otherwise small shirts. the handbook additionally states that in order to be within dress code, "a student's attire must not disrupt the education process, interfere with the maintenance of a positive teaching/learning environment, nor compromise reasonable standards of health, safety, and decency." a crop top does not violate any one of those criteria. it's not just about being able to wear crop tops, it's about the fact that the administration claims to not want to disrupt school but they will take a girl out of class, humiliate her, and force her to change all in the name of "modesty" which i would strongly argue is far more anti-education than letting teenagers wear what we choose to. dress codes are just another way of shifting the blame off of creeps and onto teenage girls who are just trying to be comfortable in the heat. please sign this and help change the lake zurich dress code!
