Change the law so that collisions with cats have to be reported (Guernsey)

The Issue

The law requires a driver to report any collision with a horse, cow, ass, mule, sheep, pig, goat, or dog but there is no requirement to report a collision with a cat (sections 8 and 14 of the The Road Traffic (Guernsey) Ordinance 2019).

I am petitioning to have the law changed because two cats were hit last week in the road where I live. Pets are cherished members of the family, offering companionship and unconditional love. When a pet passes away, the loss is deeply felt - leaving behind an empty space in the home and in the hearts of those who loved them. The sadness is often profound, as pets are not just animals, but loyal friends and family members.

Cats deserve the same respect as all other animals and changing the law to make motorists report collisions would ensure the cat has timely veterinary care and its family know what has happened to their pet.
