The Issue

Every year, students in Lehigh Acres, Florida, anticipate their graduation day, a monumental event marking the culmination of years of hard work and perseverance. However, this year, our school has scheduled our graduation for June 1st, later than neighboring schools whose students graduate before May 30th. This not only feels unfair but places an unnecessary burden on students and their families who have planned for this important milestone.

For many of us, the scheduled date negatively affects job prospects, summer internships, and family plans. Other nearby communities will see their students walking across the stage earlier, giving them a jump start into the next phase of life. We, too, deserve to celebrate our achievements alongside our friends and peers in a timely manner.

Graduating in May would align us with the majority of schools in the region, reduce stress, and acknowledge the hard work we've put in ALL 4 YEARS. Changing the date requires coordination, but it is a feasible adjustment that respects our efforts and aspirations. This request is not just about a single day; it's about fair treatment and having equal opportunities.

We urge the school to reconsider the current graduation schedule and move our graduation date to before June 1st. By signing this petition, you stand with us in seeking equitable treatment and ensuring that Gateway High School students can celebrate their accomplishments without unnecessary delays. Your support can help bring about this change. Please sign our petition to make this happen.
