Donald Trump, Elon Musk, the Billionaire class & the GOP are the Tapeworms of American Democracy: Hold Them Accountable for Their Parasitic Lies

We, the undersigned, believe that the Republican Party and Donald Trump have become the tapeworms of American democracy—brainless, spineless, gutless parasites that feed on the body of our nation, sucking the lifeblood out of our institutions, our economy, and our public trust.

Just like a tapeworm, the GOP and Trump attach themselves to the body of the nation, thriving on misinformation, exploitation, and the erosion of democratic norms. They have no vision, no principles, and no regard for the American people—only an insatiable hunger for power and profit.

The Tapeworm Metaphor:

Brainless:

 The GOP and Trump have no coherent policy agenda beyond spreading lies, stoking fear, demolishing the government and democratic norms, and enriching themselves. From Trump’s conspiracy theories about election fraud to Marjorie Taylor Greene’s absurd claims about Jewish space lasers, the party has become a breeding ground for baseless, dangerous misinformation.

Spineless:

 The GOP has abandoned its principles to blindly follow Trump, even as he aligns himself with authoritarian leaders like Vladimir Putin, Kim Jong Un, and Xi Jinping. They have failed to stand up for democracy when it matters most, choosing instead to enable Trump’s attacks on our allies, including Ukraine, which is fighting for its survival and the future of democracy.

Gutless:

The GOP and Trump have no courage to face the truth. Instead, they attack the media, the judiciary, and anyone who dares to hold them accountable. Trump has even declared that the executive branch has power over the judiciary, a blatantly unconstitutional claim that threatens the very foundation of our democracy. Meanwhile, members of the legislature are afraid for their physical welfare and are cowed into silence by the President's strongman sycophants.

Examples of the Tapeworm’s Destruction:

Misinformation:

Trump and the GOP have weaponized lies to manipulate the public, from COVID-19 denialism to false claims about election fraud. These lies have eroded trust in institutions, sowed division, and put lives at risk.
Marjorie Taylor Greene has spread conspiracy theories about 9/11, school shootings, and even Jewish space lasers, all while refusing to apologize or retract her false statements. RFK Jr.'s anti-vaccine rhetoric has had a direct impact on a resurgence of measles in the United States, which has caused the death of a child and for which he feels no remorse whatsoever, when the disease was declared eradicated in 2001.

Authoritarianism:

Trump has praised dictators like Vladimir Putin, Kim Jong Un, and Xi Jinping, while attacking democratic allies like Ukraine. His VP pick, JD Vance, has echoed Trump’s authoritarian rhetoric, claiming that the executive branch has power over the judiciary.
The GOP has enabled Trump’s authoritarian tendencies, refusing to hold him accountable for his attacks on democracy, including his incitement of the January 6th insurrection.

Exploitation:

Like a tapeworm, the GOP and Trump feed on the labor and taxes of hardworking Americans while dismantling the systems that support the public good. They have cut taxes for billionaires, slashed funding for healthcare and education, and rolled back environmental protections, all while enriching themselves and their corporate donors.Trump’s tax cuts for the wealthy will have added trillions to the national debt, while working families struggle to make ends meet.

We Demand:

Rebrand the GOP Mascot to Reflect the Reality of Their Parasitic Behavior:

Symbolically change the GOP mascot from the elephant to the tapeworm to reflect how misinformation, exploitation, and authoritarianism have become central to the party’s strategy. The tapeworm represents the brainless, spineless, gutless nature of the GOP and Trump, who feed on the public’s trust while enriching themselves.

Introduce a Truth Threshold for Congress and the Presidency:

Create a nonpartisan, fact-checked system to track the statements of elected officials.
If a member of Congress or the president makes a certain number of blatant untruths (e.g., 10 or more), they should immediately trigger articles of impeachment.

This system should be directly tied to the legitimacy of their speech and their ability to serve the public trust.

Hold the GOP and Trump Accountable for Their Lies and Authoritarianism:

Investigate and address any actions by Trump and the GOP that undermine democratic norms, align with authoritarian regimes, or exploit the public for personal gain.

Implement consequences for political leaders who repeatedly spread false information, including fines, loss of platform access, or other penalties.
Strengthen Media Literacy and Fact-Checking Initiatives:

Invest in nationwide educational programs to teach critical thinking and media literacy, empowering Americans to identify and resist misinformation.
