As a senior within the Fauquier County public school system I have noticed that the dress code has always been a problem. Female students tend to be unfairly targeted simply based on the shape of their body. We get dress coded for showing shoulders, midriff, backs, and even just for wearing shorts. The dress code is even a problem for the male students too since they get dress coded for tank tops.

Many teachers, students, and parents dislike the dress code too simply due to the unwanted stress that students face. Students feel targeted for the way their body is shaped and some feel as if the dress code is unfair because skinnier or “less developed” students get dress coded far less than “more developed” students.

If the dress code was changed to be more like Loudoun County’s dress code then it would eliminate all of the issues I have stated. Loudoun County’s dress code allows students to wear what they want as long as there is no obscene images or anything hinting at illegal activities and as long as you are not showing undergarments or exposing private areas. Students could dress freely, express themselves, not feel ashamed of their body, and many would be less stressed overall too.  So please, sign this petition for even the chance for change.
