The dress codes at SCS are inherently sexist and humiliating. 

Dress codes like these are what help perpetuate rape culture. Women and girls are not allowed where mainstream clothing is because we are seen as sexual creatures and need to be dressed "appropriately" in order to maintain the "work environment". By saying a girl is dressed inappropriately for wearing a crop top is promoting the idea that their bodies are inherently sexual. 

I think it is also important to mention that there is no "slutty" version of male clothing. So yes, dress codes are a sexist issue not only because of that but also because it makes belittles the males at the school by saying that "they aren't able to control themselves" making them seem like animals-- which promotes rape culture.

On another note, it is not fair that young girls should be in a space where they feel like they are going to get in trouble by adults and teachers for wearing a tank top and shorts during the summer when the building has no air conditioning in the majority of the classrooms. 

Everything the dress code stands for is based on outdated, discriminatory ideologies and needs to be changed. An idea of what we are asking for is shown in this article about the TDSB's new dress code.
