Change the Deadly Intersection at NE 56th and 94th Ave.
The Issue
At the start of May, a community shattered into a million pieces when the news was announced about the passing of our classmate Samantha Moore, who died in a car accident on a rural road in northwest Bondurant. According to a WHO article written by Skylar Stamps, as of October 1st 2026, there have been four car crashes at the intersection of NE 56th and 94th Ave within the past five months. Six people were injured, and two people were killed. After the article was published, another car accident occurred at the same intersection on October 5th with injuries sustained. In 2017 a Des Moines man was killed in a vehicle collision at the exact same intersection.
“The intersection itself is a paved, two-way stop with a 55 mph speed limit in all directions. The intersection was included in a safety study two years ago after a severe crash just one mile away.” (Stamps 2026). Law enforcement KNOWS that this is a deadly intersection, and they haven’t done anything to make sure people go home safe to their families, which is where Samantha, Linda, and Scott should be right now.
The question that all the family and friends of the victims are asking is when will enough be enough? How many more innocent people have to die before this dangerous intersection gets changed?
We can’t bring Samantha back, but maybe we can change the intersection and keep our community safer on the road.
Samantha Leigh Moore (2007-2026)
