Change the dates of Ocean's Calling Festival in Ocean City
The Issue
My wife and I have been looking forward to the Ocean's Calling Festival every year, eager to enjoy a weekend of great music, fun, and community spirit. However, for the second time, we've found ourselves in Ocean City, Maryland, facing stormy weather that forced the festival's cancellation. This issue doesn’t just affect us. It impacts thousands who travel from near and far, spending hard-earned dollars on hotels, travel, and tickets, only to be met with disappointment.
The Ocean's Calling Festival is a beacon of entertainment on the Delmarva Peninsula, attracting visitors with promises of vibrant music and memorable experiences. However, its timing at the tail end of September often exposes it to unpredictable coastal weather, a notorious problem for this period. According to the National Weather Service, late September to early October marks the height of hurricane season on the East Coast, a time known for volatile conditions that have, unfortunately, resulted in the festival's cancellation twice.
We propose rescheduling the festival to a period with more stable weather patterns, such as late May or early June. Historical weather data indicates these months experience significantly fewer storms, making it a safer and more reliable time for outdoor events. A date change not only promises a more certain event but also enhances the likelihood of higher attendance and customer satisfaction, further bolstering local businesses who benefit from the influx of tourists.
The emotional and financial tolls cannot be overlooked. For many, the festival weekend is not just an adventure, but an annual tradition to escape, reconnect, and support the arts. Rescheduling can give Ocean's Calling the consistency and reputation it deserves, ensuring it remains a highlight for both the town and festival-goers alike.
Let’s urge the planners and stakeholders of the Ocean's Calling Festival to consider our plea for a shift to safer, sunnier months. Sign this petition if you believe in a future where the festival can thrive without the threat of cancellation looming over it, and where each visit to Ocean City can be filled with joy and not rain-drenched disappointment. #BringOnTheSunshine
