Change the classification of SW Miller Hill Road
The Issue
I have been a resident of the SW Miller Hill Road area for over a decade, and over these years, one issue has remained constant: speeding. The speeding problem isn’t just a minor annoyance—it’s a persistent threat to our community's safety and peace of mind. It is common to witness vehicles racing through the neighborhood, ignoring the residential feel of our area, and putting both children and adults at risk.
After seeking solutions for several years, I was informed that the root cause lies in the classification of SW Miller Hill Road as a 'Collector Road.' This classification imposes limitations that prevent essential traffic calming measures, such as speed deterrents, from being implemented. To complicate matters further, recent restrictions have eliminated street parking, compounding the danger and inconvenience for local residents.
Reclassifying SW Miller Hill Road from a 'Collector Road' to a 'Neighborhood Road' will allow essential changes to enhance the safety and livability of our community. With this change, we can push for the installation of speed bumps or radar signs that encourage drivers to slow down. Furthermore, reinstating street parking will not only improve traffic flow but also provide safe, accessible parking options for residents and visitors alike.
The Washington County Land Use and Transportation Department requires that we rally 51% of local residents' signatures to consider such a reclassification request. This is our chance to be heard and to create positive, impactful change.
Road safety isn’t just a desire; it’s a necessity. Let us come together to foster a safe community environment where families can enjoy their neighborhood without fearing for their well-being. Your support is crucial in making this vision a reality.
Help us make SW Miller Hill Road a safe place for our children, our families, and our future. Sign this petition to urge the Washington County LUT department to reclassify SW Miller Hill Road as a 'Neighborhood Road.' Together, we can pave the way to a safer, more accommodating community.
