As a concerned parent and member of the Board of Directors for our Riverview Meadows community, I am deeply worried about the current location of our bus stop for route 36 at Cooley Elementary. The bus stop is positioned at the front of our subdivision, which also serves as the entrance and exit. This has led to significant congestion during school pick-up and drop-off hours, creating an unsafe environment for our children.

Our neighborhood is home to families who prioritize the safety and well-being of their children above all else. Despite our repeated attempts to address this issue with the Waterford School District’s Transportation Department, the bus stop remains unchanged. Traffic congestion at the entrance makes it difficult for cars to navigate safely, increasing the risk of accidents and making it particularly dangerous for young children who must navigate through this busy area.

According to the National Safety Council, over 25,000 children are injured every year in school bus-related incidents. Ensuring safe access to and from the bus stop is crucial in preventing such accidents in our community. Relocating the bus stop to a less busy area within the subdivision will alleviate traffic congestion and enhance the safety of our children.

We propose moving the bus stop further inside the subdivision where traffic is significantly less, thus providing a safer and more controlled environment for pick-up and drop-off. This simple change could dramatically reduce potential hazards and improve the quality of life for everyone in our neighborhood.
