Petition updateChange Tax DayExciting steps taken in this Tax Day revolution

Hello,

This week was exciting and here's why:

1) Met with staff of FL senator to discuss the issue and delivered the first 1,000 petition signatures

2) Spoke to the legislative director for a congressman

3) The reporter from Tax Notes who contacted me about the petition published her article this week.

4) NY CPA journal approved my article submission for publication. Signed the copyright agreement this week. Will share it when published.

5) There are now several comments on regulations.gov regarding the need to move Tax Day. Still time to comment, if interested. Please see my last update for instructions on how to submit your comment. Deadline for submission is June 3rd.

Call for help spreading the word about the petition - if you have not yet shared the petition, please consider doing so. If you are a member of your state society and it has an open forum for discussion, please consider sharing the petition there. Each time someone has done that, we've gathered at least 100 signatures. Be prepared for some comments against the date change. Those who argue for the date to stay the same do not understand that more time will not hurt them if they manage their clients accordingly. If they are able to finish by April 15th, more power to them. They can manage their clients accordingly. The rest of us simply cannot do this amount of work in the time allotted to our filing season.

We also found out last week that the IRS intentionally destroyed 30 million information returns in March 2021. This news has infuriated many of us who work hard to comply with filing deadlines.

This week the Oversight Subcommittee will hold a hearing on Taxpayer Fairness Across the IRS. The hearing is on May 18th at 10am EST and the link to watch online is here: https://waysandmeans.house.gov/legislation/hearings/oversight-subcommittee-hearing-taxpayer-fairness-across-irs

Thank you for supporting, donating, sharing, and signing this petition. I wholeheartedly believe that if we get this in front of the right people, we can successfully effect change that benefits taxpayers and tax professionals alike.

THANK YOU!!
