Fox hunting, a controversial sport, is currently allowed in Ireland, unlike in other countries such as England, Scotland, and Wales where it was banned in 2005. This brutal and inhumane sport involves groups of organized hunters and dogs chasing and killing wild foxes. Supporters argue that it is a tradition and helps control the fox population; however, the suffering inflicted on the foxes is excessive and unnecessary. There are more humane alternatives to control wildlife and protect livestock, such as fencing and use of ultrasonic devices. Because of these reasons and due to the overwhelming public support for the ban on such activities - a recent survey by the Irish Council Against Blood Sports found that 7 in 10 people are in favor of a ban - we demand the Irish government to outlaw fox hunting.
