I am a concerned parent raising two children in Angola, NY. Like so many others in our neighborhood, we are fearful every time we walk on Route 5/Erie Rd or see children boarding school buses at its intersections. My mailbox has been destroyed, and my vehicles have been hit in my own driveway, all because drivers are not adhering to the posted speed limit of 55 mph.

Despite the current speed limit, Route 5/Erie Rd, especially the stretch between Herr Rd and Cain Rd, is constantly bustling with traffic. Numerous side roads feed into it, increasing the chances of accidents. It's not just cars; it's the pedestrians, school buses loaded with children, and a community trying to ensure safety for its families.

The current speed limit fails to reflect the reality of our day-to-day lives. Drivers regularly neglect the existing speed restrictions, endangering everyone who uses this road. Decreasing the speed limit to 45 mph would not only make the road safer but also help save lives and prevent accidents that feel inevitable under current conditions.
