The Issue

Hi everyone, I live on Carnlough Road, just outside Broughshane village, about 300 yards past where the speed limit changes to 60mph. I've witnessed countless motorists and bikers leaving the village, and once they hit the 60mph zone, it feels like they’re revving up at the start of a race track. Vehicles often speed past my home with alarming velocity, creating a hazardous environment for residents, pedestrians and other road users alike.

The current speed limit poses a significant risk to the safety of our community. Children walking to and from school, elderly residents, and other pedestrians often use the path along Carnlough Road. Unfortunately, the footpath ends just beyond the 30mph zone, and as a result, those walking have little protection from the fast-moving traffic. According to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), reducing speed limits in residential areas can dramatically decrease the likelihood of accidents and pedestrian fatalities.

We are a tight-knit community in Broughshane, and we deserve to feel safe on our local roads. By reducing the speed limit from 60mph to 30mph until the footpath ends, we can greatly reduce the risk of accidents and ensure a safer environment for everyone. Changing the speed limit is a simple and effective action that can save lives and keep our roads safer.

I urge the local council and relevant authorities to listen to the voices of our community and take immediate action to implement this change. Our safety and peace of mind should be a top priority. Please sign this petition to show your support for making Carnlough Road a safer place for all.
