Change Rocklahoma to a cooler fall weekend
The Issue
As a devoted attendee of Rocklahoma, I've experienced firsthand the challenges of enjoying the festival in sweltering heat. Each year, thousands of music lovers gather in Pryor, Oklahoma to celebrate rock music, but when temperatures soar to 100 degrees Fahrenheit, it can be incredibly unsafe and uncomfortable. Long periods outside in such extreme conditions raise the risk of heat exhaustion, dehydration, and other heat-related illnesses.
Moving the festival to a cooler fall weekend would not only ensure a safer environment for attendees but also enhance the overall experience. By shifting Rocklahoma to the weekend before Halloween or Columbus Day weekend, we could enjoy pleasant weather while celebrating our love for rock in a less harsh climate. Furthermore, this adjustment offers an exciting opportunity to incorporate the fun and creativity of Halloween into the festival, adding a new and unique dimension to the event.
The heat in Oklahoma during late summer is a serious concern, not just for attendees but for performers and staff as well. According to the National Weather Service, heat is one of the leading weather-related killers in the United States, which underscores the importance of this change. By moving the festival to a cooler part of the year, we prioritize the safety and well-being of everyone involved.
We believe this adjustment is not only feasible but beneficial in the long term. With more pleasant weather, we can expect an increase in attendance, as more people will be willing to travel and participate knowing they won’t be subjected to extreme temperatures. This could lead to more revenue, expanded vendor opportunities, and a richer festival experience for all.
We urge the organizers of Rocklahoma to consider this proposal seriously. The health and safety of attendees, staff, and performers should be paramount. Please sign this petition to help us move Rocklahoma to a cooler, more enjoyable fall weekend and make it a truly unforgettable event.
