The Issue

Graduation is a significant milestone, marking both an end and a new beginning for students and their families. However, this joyous occasion is meant to be shared with loved ones, and for many of us at Phoenixville High School, the current graduation date makes it difficult for family members to attend. Scheduled for Monday, June 7th, 2027, this date coincides with the start of the work week. As a result, many families are facing the challenge of taking time off work, which is often unfeasible due to professional commitments.

Having graduation on a Monday can also add unnecessary stress for the graduates and their families. After days filled with culminating tasks like exams and final project submissions, students deserve a chance to celebrate without the constraints of working days. A Friday graduation on June 4th, 2027, would provide this opportunity, making it more convenient for families to travel and participate in the celebration, staying over the weekend if needed without the pressure of returning to work immediately.

Many other schools have successfully switched their graduation days to weekends to accommodate families, and we believe Phoenixville High School can do the same. Doing so would not only increase attendance but also enhance the graduation experience, ensuring that this monumental day is filled with joy and support from family and friends.

We respectfully request that the Phoenixville Area School District administration reconsiders the planned date and moves the graduation ceremony to Friday, June 4th, 2027. Let's ensure that every student has the chance to celebrate their achievements with all their loved ones present.

Sign this petition to support changing our graduation date to a more family-friendly Friday, allowing everyone to partake in the joyous celebration of our academic achievements.
