The Lychee and Dog Meat Festival, commonly known as Yulin Dog Meat Festival, is an annual celebration held in Yulin, Guangxi, China during the summer solstice in which festival-goers consume dog meat and lychees. The festival spans about 10 days during which it is estimated that 10,000-15,000 dogs are tortured and then consumed. The local residents and festival organisers claim that the animals are killed humanely. However, campaigners have claimed that the animals are 'treated abominably'. An American witness reported that some of the dogs eaten seemed to be stolen house pets, judging by their collars. Does all of this sound right and humane to you? What have these animals deserved to be ill-treated in this manner? They are brutally whacked with clubs, paraded around in wooden crates, are squashed in metal cages with around ten other dogs, burnt alive..the list could go on and on. And we call them 'Man's Best Friend'. The animals are voiceless and are patiently waiting in silence for someone like you to voice out for them and help make the world right.
