The Issue

Having a pet wallaby is more than just having an exotic animal; for me, it symbolizes a deep personal connection and remembrance of my daughter who passed away. This animal serves as an emotional support and a cherished part of my family. Unfortunately, due to current ordinances in Cudahy, WI, I am unable to legally keep this precious companion in my city.

In Cudahy, wallabies are currently classified under the same category as many other exotic animals that are forbidden within city limits. These laws were created to ensure community safety, yet they do not always consider individual circumstances and the potential benefits of exceptions, especially when it comes to emotional support animals.

Emotional support animals, such as my wallaby, play a crucial role in providing comfort and companionship, aiding significantly in mental well-being. Cities across the United States, including those in neighboring states, have recognized the importance of such animals and made accommodations for them, putting policies in place that allow emotional support animals to live alongside their human companions.

We propose a change in the local ordinance to consider the special role emotional support animals play, enabling individuals like me to maintain their important animal companions while continuing to ensure community safety. A specific permit process for responsible owners of wallabies as emotional support animals could alleviate any concerns.

Please join me in urging the city officials of Cudahy to revise these ordinances. Signing this petition will not only help me but also set a precedent for others in similar situations who rely on their emotional support animals for comfort and healing.
