Change Ontario Parks reservation no-show policy
The Issue
As an avid camper and frequent visitor to Ontario’s beautiful parks, I am deeply concerned about the current reservation system that leaves countless campsites sitting empty for days, often during peak camping seasons. As someone who cherishes spending time in nature, it's frustrating to see these coveted spots go to waste while so many eager campers are unable to secure reservations due to full bookings.
One such prime example is Killbear Provincial Park, a natural haven renowned for its picturesque landscapes and rich biodiversity. Unfortunately, it is common to witness reserved campsites sitting vacant, sometimes for weeks. The current policy does not allow these spots to be reallocated promptly, impacting the experience of countless other park visitors.
A simple yet effective solution is to revert to the previous policy, whereby if a reservation holder fails to arrive by 8 AM the day after their scheduled check-in, the park would have the authority to release the site to waiting campers. This measure ensures that no-show bookings no longer hoard valuable camping opportunities.
Additionally, this policy should allow flexibility; reservation holders can call the park to state their delay, along with a new expected arrival date. This provision ensures the no-show policy is fair and adaptable to unforeseen circumstances that may delay travelers.
By implementing this change, Ontario Parks can significantly maximize the use of its campsite resources, providing more individuals and families the chance to enjoy nature. The parks belong to all of us, and allowing greater access means more people can experience the transformative joy of camping in our stunning provincial parks.
Let's ensure our parks are vibrant, accessible, and fair for everyone. Sign this petition to urge Ontario Parks to reinstate a commonsense no-show policy that benefits campers and optimally utilizes our natural spaces.
