Leading back to 1941, New Mexico has been dubbed the "Land of Enchantment" which became its official state nickname in 1999. However, this title does not give the glorious state its due. Looking at New Mexico's statistics alone should not only make you want to change the slogan, but also be enthused about doing so. 

New Mexico ranks 2nd for overall poverty, 2nd for violent crime, 49th for public education, 47th for economic climate, and the list goes on. These are some impeccable numbers for a state with a population of just over 2 million! But what we see time and time again is that New Mexico is almost always somehow beat out for the title of the worst state in the union, and to thank for that, we have the astounding state of Mississippi. Therefore, we want to show appreciation for our lackluster counterpart by commemorating them through New Mexico's very own state nickname.

The nickname "Thank God for Mississippi"  truly embodies the spirit and joy contained within every New Mexican soul, so we would like to stand together in patriotic unity by changing one of the core descriptions of our state to something with integrity and truth.
