2.5 - 3.0 Tons - The annual 2030 CO2 goal per person of global scientific community.

15 Tons - The annual CO2 footprint of the average American. 500% of the scientific recommendation. 

70 Tons - The annual average carbon footprint of the wealthiest 10% of the US population. ~ 3000% of the scientific recommendation. 

160 ppm to 280 ppm - The concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere for the Million years preceding the year 1900 as reconstructed from Antarctic ice cores. Fluctuations between 160 and 280 due to natural variability of Earth's orbital cycles call Milankovitch Cycles. 

425 ppm - Current atmospheric concentration of CO2. A 50% increase in the last century due to human industrial activities. 

1942 - The year in which the USA implemented a policy (Rationing of consumption pursuant to the WW2 effort) which provides a realistic precedent for addressing the climate crisis. 

2022 - The year the Democratic Party passes the Inflation Reduction Act, (IRA) perhaps the biggest single act of Greenwashing and Propaganda in American History. 2022% may also be the percentage by which the claims of emission reductions in IRA exceed the actual results. 

13,000 years ago  - Approximate date of the last substantial shutdown of the overturning Atlantic Ocean Circulation (AMOC) due to massive freshwater flooding into the N. Atlantic. A condition which we are currently at risk of committing ourselves to at any time and which would fundamentally change the weather patterns which human civilization is dependent upon. 

1.3 million - The ratio of electricity consumption for a single Bitcoin transaction to a single standard credit card transaction. The average Bitcoin transaction results in > 0.5 tons of CO2 emission !!!

10-20 million years ago- The last time CO2 levels on Earth were this high according to paleo-climate reconstruction. 

55 million years ago - The Paleocene Eocene Thermal Maximum (PETM). Climate conditions fundamentally incompatible with human civilization as a result of runaway greenhouse gas accumulation. The thresholds at which we might commit ourselves to similar feedback loops are unknown. The current rapid increase in greenhouse gas buildup is an order of magnitude faster than the paleo climate reconstructions suggest took place 55M years ago. 

+/- 1 Billion - The number of people who might be subject to famine as a result of an AMOC shutdown which may be committed to at any time. 

1.5 Billion + - The number of people who are dependent upon the downstream runoff of glaciers in the Hindu-Kush and Himalayan Mountains which are on a trajectory to largely disappear this century. 

Summary - We are on a clear and rapid trajectory to the greatest genocide in human history.  There is no moral system which condones this ..... the only way to stop this is to add your voice and make this a higher priority than other issues which are effectively a distraction. 

Climate change dwarfs the issues which most of us are preoccupied with and divided over like abortion, gun control, black lives matter, etc. If we fail on this issue, we may either go extinct as a species or enter an era of extraordinary survival pressure and brutality which will even exceed the example of the WW2 Holocaust. 

We have only one Earth with one shared atmosphere which we are Poisoning with respect to its ability to sustain us. We must abandon a mindless and exploitative economic system which is programmed to explode.  It provides each of us a perverse short-term incentive to use fossil fuels for our personal benefit while destroying the habitability of the planet in the process. THE COLLECTIVE INSANITY IS OBVIOUS and we must fight against it or perish. We need each other's help !!
