We're up to 140+ of us. Every little addition adds credibility and solidarity to the message.
I need to raise the bar for myself and go talk to people in public places and listen to feedback.
It's not the easiest thing to do to grab attention on a topic which is about fidelity to future experience when so many people are struggling to get through the present day. The generational divide is profound and I understand my privilege as a Boomer to have been born in an unprecedented era of ease and prosperity. The young people in Gen Z and younger who will be most impacted by climate breakdown are also suffering from a dismal economic outlook and their prospects for a quality of life which mirrors my generation's is not considered remotely attainable by most.
Lots of Gen Z is giving up hope. To coin a phrase ..... that's going to Boomerang on Boomers who are going to need the support of young people in our old age. That's our karma.
I've reached out to about 500 climate scientists via email over the last week. Scientific reticence is a real problem ..... they are dependent upon rich people for funding and they are holding back from telling the unvarnished truth about our climate predicament.
Nature doesn't care about us. The truth is breaking through despite our wish for an alternate reality. Some of us have to be ready to share a vision about how we can carry on after the shit hits the fan. We are going to have to concede some personal liberties for the benefit of the world at large.
I know that's a buzzkill. But someone has to be willing to tell it like it is.
Peace,
Rich
