The Issue

In Monterey, a place where I have lived for many years, I have always been proud to be an American. Our community comes from diverse backgrounds and beliefs, but above all, we share one common identity — being American. The current rainbow crosswalk, while representing inclusivity, highlight only a certain portion of our population. My belief is that as a community unified by our national pride, the crosswalks should reflect colors that resonate with all of us - red, white, and blue.

Monterey is known for its picturesque scenery and cultural richness. Adopting the colors of our national flag for the crosswalks can symbolize unity and patriotism, benefiting everyone who calls this beautiful city home. By changing the colors to those of the American flag, we emphasize a shared love for our country above any individual group identity.

Many cities across the United States have followed similar patriotic themes, showcasing pride in being part of this great nation. I urge the Monterey city council to consider this change as a way to unify rather than divide, focusing on what brings us together as a community.

This proposal is not about erasing or undermining any group within our community. Instead, it's a chance to celebrate the patriotism that each American holds. By implementing red, white, and blue crosswalks, Monterey would stand as a beacon of unity, reflecting a stronger, more inclusive American identity.

Please join me in urging the Monterey city council to unite us under the banner of our nation. Sign this petition to help make our city's crosswalks reflect the values that bind us all together.
