Happy Black History Month!
Greetings Supporters!
Thank you for your support by signing this petition to change the leadership of the VI Public Libraries, namely Mrs. Amy DeSorbo, who is the current director of the Division of Libraries, Archives, and Museums (DLAM). Based on an interview for the position of a librarian for the Elaine I. Sprauve Library and Museum of Cultural Arts, Mrs. DeSorbo failed to answer the question of whether or not she holds a library science degree. Mr. Sean Krigger and St. Thomas Librarian, Symra Wilkinson, to name a few are more qualified for the position of Director than Mrs. Amy DeSorbo, respectively.
It is not about who likes who, because I love everyone, it is about leadership quality in the field of library science to provide library services and events that support children and families' reading and overall growth and positive development to be future contributors to their community. For example, handicap access is needed for compliance with the American Library Association funding as well as the American Disabilities Act.
The community of St. John needs to be part of their public library's internal operations, which are ultimately going to serve them - the St. John community, therefore all ah we need to be involved in what happens inside this beautiful building.
I suggested a Library Advisory Board of St. John librarians, teachers, and historians that will oversee the operations of this St. John library, named in honor of Elaine I. Sprauve, who needs to be remembered and shared with the children - the next generations of leaders in our community.
Continue to share this petition to demand that leaders of these V.I. Public Libraries, Archives, and Museums (DLAM) have knowledge in library science with accredited degrees in order to hold leadership accountable to the community so the community knows what is happening with updates. Most importantly, hiring a new librarian, library associates, grant writers, landscapers, custodians, and security to open the Elaine I. Sprauve Library and Museum of Cultural Arts with longer hours and weekend hours for children after-school and during the summer months. Do not let our new librarian have to clean the toilets, or sweep the library because leadership fails to provide qualified personnel because they themselves are not qualified.
Thank you for your continued support!
-Dr. Carla M. Sewer, CFLE, Librarian, Advocate for children and families everywhere!
