The Issue

Recently, sitting in a park with a close friend, who happens to be experiencing homelessness, I felt a peculiar sense of unease. A buzzing overhead drew our attention to a drone. As it hovered precariously close, it became evident we were being filmed. The discomfort was palpable, invading the little solace my friend had found that day. This intrusion wasn’t about community safety or information—this was about clicks, views, and online revenue from "auditors" whose only goal seemed to be provocation under the guise of accountability.

Across the United Kingdom, self-proclaimed auditors have taken to using drones to film everyday citizens without consent. Their tactics are not aimed at transparency but at creating engagement through agitation and conflict. These individuals often upload footage to social media platforms that monetize such provocative content, which only encourages more extreme and appalling behavior.

This issue isn't merely one of annoyance but of dignity and respect. Vulnerable groups, including the homeless, unemployed, and those with addiction, are disproportionately targeted under the veil of public auditing. Their lives should not become fodder for online entertainment. Such exploitation intensifies the social stigmas and divisions we work hard to overcome, affecting community trust and individual self-worth.

Stronger regulations are essential. The existing legal framework does not adequately protect the public from being exploited by these "auditors." Actionable solutions include limiting the ability to film individuals without their express consent and creating stringent punishments for those who infringe upon personal privacy.

Moreover, we urge social media platforms to enforce stricter policies against monetizing content that exploits individuals in unfair or misleading contexts. Platforms have the power and responsibility to curtail this damaging social phenomenon by refusing to profit from materials generated by public harassment.

By signing this petition, you are advocating for change. You ensure that the comfort and privacy of the public, especially its most vulnerable members, are respected and protected under the law. Stand with us in urging our legislators and platforms to take action against these modern-day profiteers of misery. Let's foster a society that prioritizes empathy over exploitation. Please sign and let your voice be heard.
