We are gathering signatures, patient experiences, and support to make KP Southern California aware that they are still using criteria and processes that result in wrongfully denying coverage for gender-affirming care. This forces patients to go through time-consuming processes to appeal such decisions, who often are not given knowledge or guidance on how to do so, or their rights, and do not have the resources or time.

Gender-affirming care is life-saving.

Kaiser Permanente frequently employs tactics like conveniently claiming you are barely past thresholds to move on in the procedure process in areas like BMI, hormone levels, and mental health standing.

They also require trans people to comply with invasive, transphobic, and cruel criteria like sending naked pictures of themself over the internet. No in-person office visits are offered without special request. These photos are available to any staff who view your file. This practice doesn’t take dysphoria into account, and can actively harm patients.

This actively harms the transgender community in Southern California and contributes to gender dysphoria, trauma, institutional discrimination, depression, anxiety, and suicide.
