The Issue

At Chaparral High School, homecoming is a highly anticipated event. It is heartbreaking to hear murmurs that this significant milestone might not include many seniors.  Many seniors have worked hard and looked forward to enjoying their final year by attending events like homecoming. Yet, when trying to purchase tickets, they were met with obstacles that seemed avoidable.

The current process for distributing(selling) tickets is flawed. Seniors were informed that tickets sell out rapidly, and despite persistent efforts to purchase them, some were left empty-handed. The small ticket window, available during limited hours, and selling extra tickets to other students for guests  made it difficult for students with packed schedules to secure their spot at the dance. Once they finally made it, the dreaded words "sold out" were their only greeting.

The heart of the issue lies in the distribution(selling) method that fails to account for the high demand and importance of the event, especially for seniors. This method disproportionately affects those with restrictive schedules, primarily seniors who are balancing academics and various extracurricular activities.

There are numerous ways this situation could be improved. The administration could extend the ticket window hours, provide an online purchase option to make the process accessible, or prioritize seniors who are attending their last school dance. Additionally, increasing the number of tickets and reorganizing the event space to accommodate more attendees could ensure everyone has a chance to participate in this memorable event.

We urge the administration of Chaparral High School and KISD to consider these solutions and implement a fair policy for homecoming ticket sales for this year’s homecoming dance. We, as parents DEMAND this be corrected immediately to allow the seniors to attend . It's important to ensure all seniors have the opportunity to celebrate this once-in-a-lifetime occasion. Please sign this petition to demand a change in the ticket distribution process to make it inclusive and fair for every student at Chaparral High School.
