The Issue

I am a student at Monash University Malaysia. Our campus recently received a bomb threat, the first such incident in our university's history. This terrifying experience has caused anxiety and fear among all students, including myself, who are concerned for our safety. No arrests have been made yet, and we constantly face the possibility of further threats. This uncertainty makes it difficult to concentrate on our studies, and more importantly, it's hard for us to feel safe in the campus environment.

In this situation, returning to campus solely for exams seems both unnecessary and dangerous. Many students are struggling to cope with stress and anxiety; while professional psychological therapy and counseling are helpful, they cannot completely eliminate our fear. The urgent priority is not only post-event counseling but also taking practical and effective preventative measures to protect our student body.

Monash University Malaysia has proven its ability to conduct online exams effectively. The university has long used the Moodle platform and proctored online examination platforms. Given the existing infrastructure and considering the current pandemic threat, reverting to online exams is wise and feasible.

Students being on campus during exam periods unnecessarily increases their risk of exposure to potential threats and exacerbates stress and anxiety for students and their families. By moving exams online, universities can ensure students' safety and peace of mind, which I believe is a fundamental responsibility of the institution.

This petition urges Monash University Malaysia to reinstate online exams until it is confirmed that returning to on-campus testing is absolutely safe. We must act swiftly to prevent any potential harm and provide a safe learning environment for students.

Please join me in signing this petition, calling on the university to prioritize our safety and well-being by choosing online exams given the unresolved security threats. Let us raise our voices, take action, and safeguard our future. Please sign the petition now to support this cause.
