The Issue

Every child deserves truth, identity, justice, and protection under the law. Yet, our current DNA laws often fail to safeguard the most vulnerable among us – children who are underage , motherless or have lost their mothers. These children, lacking a maternal advocate to speak on their behalf during crucial life-altering decisions, too often slip through the cracks of a flawed system. Let’s bring an appropriate age a DNA can be legally performed!

When a child’s biological connection is in question, who ensures they receive the answers they deserve? How can we provide them with the assurance of their identity and protect their future when their mothers are no longer present to validate their family history or stand up for their legal rights? It's time to address these heart-wrenching issues.

The current laws offer insufficient pathways for verifying parentage and identity when a mother's voice is absent. This can lead to unjust decisions, such as the denial of rightful inheritance, social benefits, or the misassignment of guardianship, all of which profoundly impact a child's sense of self and security. Studies show that identity issues are directly linked to mental health problems, and unresolved questions of parentage intensify such struggles.

Evidence from child advocacy groups indicates that more than 10% of children affected by these laws face unnecessary bureaucratic barriers to securing their rightful familial connections and entitlements. These are children who need clarity and support, not additional hardships.

A reform of DNA laws is urgently needed to establish protocols that automatically ensure the rights of children without mothers are preserved. This reform should include provisions for:

1. The establishment of a dedicated, independent body tasked with overseeing DNA testing and verification processes for motherless children.
2. Streamlined access to DNA testing funded by public resources to prevent undue delays caused by financial limitations.
3. Clear guidelines mandating that guardianship considerations always reflect the child's best interest, drawn from accurate genetic information where available.

Every day we delay this change, more children face potentially devastating consequences. We must act now to rectify these failings for the future well-being of our children. Policymakers, child welfare advocates, and community leaders ought to come together and forge solutions that honor every child's right to a clear identity and protected future.

Please join me in urging our lawmakers to prioritize revising these critical aspects of the DNA law. Let us be the advocates for the voiceless and pave the way for a fair and just system. Sign this petition to help drive change and protect our children.
