Change Code of Behaviour's sixth "rule" on Hair/Cosmetics in St.Kevins C.C Dunlavin

The Issue

Join the movement by adding your name. looking for 500 signatures to hopefully change the outdated "Rule" that is influenced by old fashion values and opinions unrelated to education in St. Kevins Community College. The aim of the petetion is to remove and alter the rules that are bullet pointed beneath The sixth rule in The Code of Behavior.

It is a fact that hair colour/styles, piercings and make-up DO NOT effect education, encourge bad behavior, tarnish attendence or punctuality or effect the purposes of school whatsoever. Staff and students understand the reasons for rules are to ensure safety and efficient education among students, Students being the only one these rules apply to. The rule is opinion based and unfairly implemeneted for no practical purpose other than being an opinioned "idealistic appearence" and prefence of the school. Instead we should shift towards something more inclusive for students, The school should begin to adapt to the world of expression and appearence as an art form and something that shows appreciation towards life.

As an alternative solution, the full college uniform will remain compulsory for obvious reasons but the students should be permitted completely to express themselves visually and have the ability to chose their appearence and have their own alterative and unique hair styles outside of what is the mandatory uniform outift. having those aspects as the bare minimum of understanding is that it is what St. Kevins Community College and other schools aspire to have in students and should allow be achieved in new ways of individualism.

These things should not be described or considered as "extreme", "criminal" or "distracting" by staff , It is too argumentative and feeding stereotypes, which is arguably more "extreme" than the consideration of students developments and how exploration of themselves will benefit them with their own physcial identity and anyone deserves to look/ be themselves in a learning environment, especially when it makes a positive conclusion.

This petition confirms that you agree the rules should be transformed to the following proposal is thus:

6. The wearing of the full College uniform TO, IN and FROM school is compulsary at all times and at all College functions unless otherwise specified.

  • Jewellery/Piercings permitted except for physical activites such as P.E or when specified by Staff to remove for offensive design/Other school activities.
  • Make-up and varnish permitted but make-up supplies such as varnish, lip stick and other stainable materials are not permitted unless specified.
  • Dyed, Bleached and Coloured hair is permitted
