The Issue

This petition is to reinstate the MLB team and organization name CLEVELAND INDIANS

This petition is to reinstate the logo CHIEF WAHOO.

This petition is to reinstate the rich history, pride, honor to our fan base.

All of Northern Ohio,

All Cleveland Indians fans.

All Sports Fans in Northern Ohio and across the country who have been loyal Cleveland Indians fans.

The Native American culture respectfully.

The people who are affected by this will be obviously the Native American people of this great country. They deserve to have our country honor them in any way shape or form possible.

They took away a major sports team name that was actually there to honor the Native Americans(Indians) not insult or put down them.

It incorrectly was assumed through the eyes and ears of any who did not understand the impact that this team has, had, and will always have on our community, the great community of North East Ohio.

Next it will impact the residents of northeast Ohio.

Next it will impact the die hard sports fans especially the baseball fans of northeast Ohio and the fans across the whole world who have had and will always have "Pride" in the team, then name and the symbol of the honored Cleveland Indians name.

What is at stake is, tradition, honor, respect, pride and love.

Maybe what is not understood is the way that Cleveland Indians fans(true fans) have felt and always have felt about the team name, the logo chief wahoo, the aura of what that meant.

People outside the area "could not" and "would not" understand what this team and most importantly the team name has meant and will always mean to us.

I understand that the original chief wahoo may have been seen as blackface type of imagery in some people's eyes, and I personally believe that to be incorrect. at least through the eyes of all Cleveland Indians fans we never have looked at that symbol that way. It always filled us with a sense of pride and honoring the native American people, which I am sure can be reiterated through the voices of all Cleveland Indians fans.

Before this woke cancel culture came to be where everything was offensive, nobody I ever talked to up and down the east coast ever had any issues with the chief wahoo logo or symbol. This just goes to show that it never was taken as offensive before.

If there are or may be a small percentage that does find the logo offensive then apologies as we here in the Cleveland Indians community have never held that as such from our side.

Additionally, I do not see how the team name is offensive. there are a whole culture of people who live in "India" who are considered "Indians". As this is a name similar to Florida residents being considered "Floridians". So I do not see the way that the word "Indians" is coming across as offensive

Additionally, there was a all star baseball player by the name of Luis soxalexis who was native american and played for the Cleveland Ohio team way bacK in 1897-1899. You may look him up via Wikipedia (he was a real person).

We gave the team name the "Indians" to honor him as an all star caliber player that he was, in fact the chief wahoo symbol was molded after his likeness also.

So to say that the team name is offensive is ignorant to the facts of why it came to be called the Cleveland Indians,

I have massive respect for anybody's culture and am considerate of what others are feeling.

Growing up in northeast Ohio we don't have much that we can be excited about, proud about. But the things that we do hold near and dear to our hearts is our beloved sports teams.

When the Indians name was taken away recently we lost what pride we have in our team, lost a sense of ourselves as a fan base.

We were never okay with the team name being changed to the Guardians, we still aren't okay with it today and frankly wont be okay with it ever.

Fans who show up to games still wear the Indians items as we are still proud of that name and symbol.

I am voicing this petition as a voice for all of the Cleveland Indians fans here in northeast Ohio and around the world. A voice that so desperately needs to be heard, a voice that has been unnecessarily silenced due to a movement that need not be imposed upon our team, our team name or our great sports town.

I would encourage all of the Cleveland Indians faithful and fans to stand up, pull together and sign this petition so that we may get our team name back, get our chief wahoo logo back and get OUR TEAM BACK the CLEVELAND INDIANS.

To The MLB, the MLB commisioner and the owners of the current Cleveland Indians/Guardians. I ask you to reinstate the Cleveland Indians as a MLB organization. As an MLB team name effective immediately.

To the Native American culture I implore you to read my petition and try to understand our voice towards your great heritage, your great culture and your great people.

We honor you. We want to honor you by having this be our team name once again.

We want to once again have connection to our team and our team history.

I am not a voice for other organizations who have been changed, I am just a voice for the hometown team that I grew up with, that I love, that I have a bond with older family members about.

I want our voices to be heard and am willing to discuss this with any member of the native American culture as I myself have native American blood to some percentage in my family. (May not be a lot but that needs to be noted). I was told I have a decent amount of native American in one side of my family. I know people who have native American blood and still possess the native American name.

What will it take for us to have our voices heard and not silenced? What will it take for us to be able to have our beloved sports team name back?

I believe if we obtain enough signatures, we can in fact have our team name returned to glory. And have our logo returned to glory and have our pride back where it belongs.

Here in northeast Ohio.

I know the whole cancel culture wave has come and gone. So now I voice our stance as it should have been voiced years ago.

Please hear our stance on this subject and please grant us the small change we wish to have returned to the way it once was.
