Change Canadian self-defense laws so self-defenders are allowed weapons

The Issue

So just today, as something came up (a certain country possibly plotting to take over Canada), I decided to look up self-defense laws in Canada. As soon as I did, something especially idiotic caught my attention. Namely, you cannot use weapons in self-defense.

While done with good intentions, this is still stupid on so many levels. First, if someone is attacking a person illegally, they're doing it because they believe themselves naturally stronger, can take multiple physical blows, or have an even more illegal weapon of their own. After all, if a crook is already illegally attacking someone, they have already decided they are not following the law, and will- by definition- use illegal tactics. Therefore, not allowing a defender to have any weapons at all gives too much power to the attacker. And as not everyone exercises, it's utterly ludicrous and frankly childish to think everyone ever will do karate lessons or only take physical training. In a life-or-death situation, you need an edge to survive, and someone fighting for their life isn't going to have the instinctual precognition to do this utterly moronic tap-dance around bureaucracy. Plus, Canada is in real risk of being invaded, and so therefore these rules further screw over Canadians being attacked by invaders, via depriving them of what should be an easy means to keep themselves safe.

Therefore, I am asking the Canadian government to relax Canadian self-defense laws to allow some weapons in self-defense. Knifes, pepper spray, any item where a defender can at least fend off an attacker, while the attacker might be able to survive. Of course, other laws relating to self-defense can stay- still no hitting an attacker with instant extreme force while they're down, and still no warning shots. Just let defenders have some real way of fending off attackers even with no physical training.
