The Department of Transportation of Baltimore County is eliminating 25 bus stops from Chapel Hill Elementary School based on Board Policy 3410. This could and will happen at your school too. 

Board Policy 3410 states that children living within a mile of an elementary school will not be provided transportation to school but will be forced to walk.  Many people in the neighborhoods surrounding Chapel Hill live .8 or .9 miles from school, and all children would have to pass a registered sex offenders house on the way to school. 

While I understand that it is the parent's responsibility to get their child to school, forcing 5, 6, 7, and 8 year old children to walk 2 miles per day in any type of weather is unreasonable.  How many adults walk 2 miles per day to their cars in rain, sleet, snow and freezing temperatures? 

Please contact your county councilman and ask for a change to Board Policy 3410 to decrease the distance for elementary school children from 1 mile to .5 mile.
