ArchiveOfOurOwn is a nice platform to use to create fanfiction featuring our favorite characters from our favorite franchises. However, it's been used as a place to post very explicit (and potentially illegal) material such as pornography, pedophilia, incest, self-harm and suicide. This is a site that allows users to make accounts if they're 13+ and I believe we must protect our children, no matter the cost from anything that corrupts their innocence. So, with this petition, I'm calling for the team behind AO3 to ban and remove all Mature and Explicit material from their site. Ao3's policies state: "Unless it violates some other policy, we will not remove Content for offensiveness, no matter how awful, repugnant, or badly spelled we may personally find that content to be." This must change. on a site with users as young as 13, Ao3 needs to report and BAN this content, now! For those that don't know, I have no children of my own. However, I do have a nephew who's currently nine months old. I'm also a big fan of L. Frank Baum's "Land of Oz" series of children's novels and if you go on AO3, you're going to find much content related to Oz. However, most of it is NSFW. A good example would be the "Stories from the Land of Oz" series which is a pornographic take on Baum's innocent magical world and includes on every single story (there's currently six of them at the time of this writing) and chapter explicit sex, most of the time it's orgies. However, there's also instances of incest, as well. I once tried to get the staff at AO3 to take down these stories. However, they sent me an email refusing to do it. So, I'm hoping and praying that with this petition, I'll convince the staff of this trash site to change their policies and stop allowing people to write and post whatever they want even. Especially since this is a site that I'm sure has a lot of minors using, as you do have to be 13+ to make an account and I do not, I repeat do NOT ever want my nephew, when he's older, but still under 18, to be exposed to the NSFW content that's being posted there because he could potentially grow up and become obsessed and addicted to such filth and I'm sure anyone viewing this who has children in any way, shape or form would understand.
