Animal Welfare Laws Need To Change

Animal welfare laws need to change for the better, recently i have been disgusted by the neglect of some abandoned mares, these mares had not been wormed in 2-4 years, not once had they seen a farrier in 2-4 years and 3/4 had major cracks in their hooves, They never got groomed and had extreme matting in their manes and tails, 2 of them had infections on/around/in their hooves, one had a rotten tooth, one of them had a halter embedded in her face, one has severe arthritis and went completely untreated, they had never seen a vet including when one of the mares foaled, not even a check to make sure they were healthy. This was reported to the police as well as lawyers and not a thing was done because they had grass and water and that being the standard for good care is what allows so many innocent animals to be abused and neglected. These mares are all in good care now and getting the treatment they need but not every horse in this situation is lucky enough to have the chance to leave, so many horses die because these laws aren’t good enough.

Animal welfare laws that require the animal to be fed and have water only is appalling. We need to make them change, and anyone with a history of neglect shouldn’t be allowed to own ANY animals. When someone calls about a neglected animal there should be a vet check required and the animal should have to pass the vet check to be allowed to stay with those people UNLESS they don’t pass due to an underlying condition that is being managed/treated.
