Currently, Alabama law only charges animal cruelty as a class A misdemeanor. A first offense only means a fine and possible jail time. The only time they charge a class C felony is when someone inflicts torture or aggravated cruelty. Leaving behind so many emaciated, neglected animals. It’s time to stand up for our animal friends and family. They deserve a better legal outcome. If you neglect an animal in the form of starvation, medical care, or withholding basic needs you should be charged with a felony. Especially if an animal dies due to the neglect.
