Why this petition matters

Started by Angelina Costa

We don't get to see our friends. We don't get to see our teachers. We don't get the same learning experience. We don't get final concerts. We don't get final games. We don't get final club parties. We don't get final class parties. We don't get post AP parties. We don't get to see our Senior projects seen through. We don't get final assemblies. We don't get Prom. We don't get to sign yearbooks.

We don't get to say goodbye. We don't get any closure.

Our last hope was graduation. But, no, now that has been cancelled too. The day we've been looking forward to our whole lives. The day we triumph in all of our hard work. The day where family from all around comes out to congratulate you for once. The day we reach adulthood. Gone. Instead we get a "virtual graduation" that to students just feels like ridicule.

I've heard that the decision to cancel it was because they believed that Seniors wouldn't attend if they pushed it back. Well, they're wrong. To us, this was our last bit of hope. The only thing we had left.

Why wouldn't we attend what should be the best day of our lives thus far? We beg of you, just postpone it. We don't care if it's by another month or two or six. You have graduated yourself, haven't you? You should know what this day means. Please, just leave us this one thing.

Full disclosure: I know that these petitions rarely work, but, hey, it's not like I have anything better to do. If there is even the slightest chance this would change, I'll take it. Also, they may have financial problems with rescheduling, or other factors I've not put into account for my pathos argument. I'd like to acknowledge I know that things like this can't be fixed just because people want it to be, but I digress.
