Old Age Tax Trap Hits Front Pages!

A major issue remains to be resolved from our petition, the growing number of older people being sucked into the tax system by the frozen lower tax threshold. Silver Voices is treating this issue as our top priority running up to the Autumn Budget. We are building up the pressure on the Government already with headline stories in the national press this week, including the front page of the Daily Express:

HMRC accepts that if the threshold remains frozen, an extra 3.4 million over 70s will be paying tax over the next three years, many of them on their basic state pension. Taxing the state pension (and the Triple Lock) is a sneaky way of undermining its value. Silver Voices is calling for urgent action to unfreeze the lower tax threshold this year and to update it on the same basis as the Triple Lock each year.
