New Year Resolution: Join Silver Voices!
Just before Christmas we had the latest blow for older people, the betrayal of the 1950s women (WASPI). Despite the Parliamentary Ombudsman recommending compensation, and numerous promises from Labour Leaders while in Opposition, the Government announced that no compensation for the late notification of the raising of their state pension ages would be offered to the three million older women affected.
We will continue to support the WASPI campaign to get this decision reversed, as well as arguing for a restoration of winter fuel payments, and a speedy resolution of the social care crisis. But our campaigns will be hard to win, as the Government clearly sees older people as the scapegoats for the current financial mess.
