I believe it’s time for change. The phrase “Cathedral of Learning” is an old outdated phrase that’s too difficult for students to say. I call for Chancellor Gallagher to officially retire the name “Cathedral of Learning” and change to “Cathy” which is a much better name for it for a few reasons

1. It’s not even a Cathedral like why call it a place of worship. Like what am I worshipping, the almighty ROC? Half the other buildings on campus have actual people names so why not the greatest building on campus?
2. It gets rid of confusion, you know some people are just going to show up to St. Paul’s cathedral for their 10  am English Lecture. It’s better to say “I have a 10 am in Cathy”. I’ve heard of people also showing up to St. Paul’s when people were saying “Let’s join the Cathedral Club tonight”
3. Efton Reid will be more likely to commit to Pitt if we change it to Cathy. When Capel is having the team run up the stairs this summer, he’ll be more relatable to Gen Z and Millenial culture. Efton will hear let’s run up “Cathy stairs” instead of “let’s run up the stairs of the Cathedral of Learning.” You’ll be seeing that “PITT IS IT” Twitter post in no time if the name is changed.
