In the midst of so much uncertainty and with no real clear path forward for the appropriate and equitable education of more than 1 million students in NYC, the last thing students and teachers need to be burdened by are state tests.

I am inviting parents and education advocates to sign on to this and have our collective voices heard so we can better serve and support our students this year in view of so much uncertainty and trauma.

Fourteen council members sent a letter this week to state education officials asking them to request a testing waiver from the U.S. Department of Education, which mandates states administer the tests.
