House Bill 528 would allow for dogs and cats that are used in laboratory testing to have the opportunity to be placed for adoption upon research completion, instead of being euthanized as is typical practice. These cats and dogs have given so much for our human benefit already; this bill will allow for them to live the rest of their time in comfort and in a loving home that they so deserve. The University System of Maryland and Johns Hopkins University has opposed this bill as they believe it will challenge their research (it will not), and open the door to "animal welfare terrorist" group's criticism (it will not). The experiments and research are completley untouched by this bill. Letting the head of the University System of Maryland, Chancellor Robert Caret, and the President of Johns Hopkins, Ronald Daniels, know that Maryland residents and beyond, are not okay with the current practices, will help to halt opposition to this bill. They are a large obstacle to getting this bill passed, changing their mind, may change the outcome of this bill for the positive and save the lives of hundreds of dogs and cats.
